Big Wind

Big Wind was born in Montana to a Gros Ventre/Nakota/Ojibwe Father and Northern Arapaho Mother. Soon after, they moved back to the Wind River Reservation, where Big Wind was raised in Arapahoe, WY for the majority of their life. At a young age, Big Wind recognized many injustices and degrees of oppression within their community. They became involved in civic engagement and youth & climate leadership at the age of 13 when they learned of environmental racism happening near their home. Since then, they have worked on numerous campaigns throughout ‘Indian Country’ and Turtle Island highlighting the injustices that BIPOC people face through direct action & multi-media arts. In 2016, they headed to the Standing Rock Reservation. In 2017, they helped create an Indigenous-led youth contingent in MA against Kinder Morgan during construction of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline through the Otis State Forest. In 2018, they joined the Giniw Collective an Indigenous Women, Femme and Queer led resistance camp in Northern Minnesota.
